CRITICAL AWARENESS AND THE FALLACY HUNT
You need to use your knowledge of fallacy and apply it to the world around us. If language used creates the realities within which we live, then it is even more important to have the ability to identify fallacy so that we make conscious decisions based on proof, facts and evidence. Likewise, it 1s important that we as writers use proof, facts, and evidence to prove our voices valid, instead of using fallacy to persuade our readers through empty, but admittedly powerful words.
Your target is to find TWO different ORGANIC examplesof each of the nine fallacy categories explored. (Thus,you will have 18 entries total). You will list your findings by category and offer a brief two sentence explanation for each explaining how and why your example is the kind of fallacy you say AND then tell me how or why the fallacy works in manipulating an audience.
These commentaries might include details about word choice, sound effects, visual images, dual message and intention, cultural or social assumptions being made or ignored, and then acknowledge the purpose or effect of such items. At the end of your fallacy collection, please write a Full Page Reflection answer the following Questions: what did you learn both as a consumer and as a user of language? How do you think fallacy affects research, argument, and authority? And perhaps most important, is this ability to recognize fallacy, find truth, and critically think for yourself part of being an educated part of society?
