Part 1:
Write an essay detailing the processes of transcription and translation. Include all stages, as well as modifications that may occur post-transcription (mRNA processing) or post-translation (protein modification).
Your essay should be written in 12 point font, using 1.5 line spacing and 1 inch margins. Your paper should be a minimum of 2 pages. Upload the document as a word (,doc, .docx) or pdf file.
Any sources used (other than your textbook) should be cited.
Part 2:
Read the case study on document and answer the questions in the text; include justification of your answers.
After answering those questions, please look up Tay-Sachs disease and answer the following questions. Be sure you cite your internet sources (only use reputable websites, please!)
1. In what ethic group(s) is TS prevalent? Is prenatal testing recommended for all couples or only certain subsets of these ethnic categories?
2. What inheritance pattern does TS follow? What is the specific mutation (give the specific locus as well) of TS disease.
3. How is the disease expressed? Are there different forms of Tay Sachs? What is/are the prognoses?
4. Are parents that have tested positive for a Tay Sachs fetus usually presented with the option of abortion? Why or why not?
