Identify three of your most important safety concerns for Gloria. Provide a rationale.
Identify Two Assessment Tools
One important safety consideration for anyone with depression is the possibility of suicide or suicidal ideation. This is critical considering that nearly half of individuals who have considered suicide have a history of depression, severe depression, and/or psychiatric hospitalization (Aaltonen et al., 2019). Factors that further increase the potential for suicide are those patients with a sense of hopelessness, comorbid anxiety, personality disorders, or substance use disorders. Another associated risk factors for suicide is living alone. Therefore, the patient, Gloria, should be screened for suicide and depression using the Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9) and the Suicide Ideation Risk Assessment.
Substance abuse is a frequent comorbid condition for depression with nearly 1/3 of patients suffering from both (Kang et al., 2018). This combination is also correlated with higher risk for suicide. Patients with substance abuse dependence will also potentially have other health issues which should be screen for such as hypertension, hepatitis, cardiovascular disease, cancer, lung disease, and HIV or AIDS.
Gloria may also suffer from a type of compulsive disorder or hoarding disorder. Health risks associated with this include poor air quality issues, sanitation issues, infestations, tripping hazard, and structural damage (Bautista et al., 2013). As a result, Gloria should be screened for health conditions such as gastrointestinal disorders, listeria infections, meningitis, skin infections, and bacterial infections.

Gloria Oaks Case Study 15.1
Two Assessment Tools to Use with Gloria
I’ll utilize the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory and the Beck Depression Inventory to analyze Gloria’s condition Gloria’s evaluation relies on the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality tool since it is used in a psychometric test to assess the psychopathological state of the patient (Gillespie et al., 2017, pp. 29-45). It involves insight therapy to understand why Gloria, despite her children’s help, cannot keep her house clean. Moreover, she continues to bring more items home. Gloria’s filthiness justifies the usage of this assessment tool, which includes 567 true or untrue assertions. Hypochondriasis, sorrow, hysteria, psychopathic deviant, masculinity-femininity, paranoia, psych asthenia, schizophrenia, hypomania, and social introversion are among Gloria’s ten clinical subscales. The Beck Depression Inventory is used as well to see whether Gloria’s symptoms of internalizing are typical or harmful. This tool invites her to fill out the scale by selecting the statement that best describes her present emotional state. I’ll be able to determine Gloria’s depression level using this tool.
Gloria Psychotherapy
I would apply CBT (Cognitive behavioral therapy) to understand Gloria’s condition better and develop a therapeutic strategy for her. CBT case formulation includes a list of obstacles, a diagnosis, working hypotheses, assets and strengths, and a cognitive behavioral therapy treatment plan. For example, Gloria’s adverse issues include divorce and the unexpected deaths of her parents and younger brother. The DSM-IV-TR is used in my case formulation technique (Sperry, 2022, pp. 167). Diagnosis is rarely included in CBT models. Nonetheless, it’s critical to my approach with Gloria to elaborate the working hypothesis which would connect all the issues in the problem list.
The client’s core beliefs are addressed via schema therapy. It involves a set of concepts known as core beliefs that can either intensify or alleviate a problem. Current circumstances always relate to a person’s advantages and weaknesses. Therefore, it is critical to assess the patient’s goals and any barriers to reaching them. During the first meetings, Gloria and I would agree on a therapy plan. Furthermore, it is also crucial to understand how to evaluate Gloria’s therapy success and monitor her development regularly. At the same time, it is necessary to encourage Gloria to keep a journal of their negative thoughts, binge-eating episodes, or other adverse intentions.
