Overall, my practicum experience has been well. I enjoy working with my therapy preceptor very much and will be working with her again in the summer semester for 30 hours. Something that I have enjoyed about my experience with her is that she gives a very basic history of the patient prior to session, and after the session she has me guess what I think their diagnosis is. It is really helpful to put “two and two togetherâ€. She does a wonderful job of explaining treatment plans and rationale for her decisions. I have also collaborated with her on some of my assignments and she has provided me great resources and information.
On the flip side, my experience with my prescriber preceptor has not been so great. I have only completed 22 hours there. My first time at the facility, the patients were under quarantine for COVID, so I was unable to go on the unit. The other times I have been to the facility, my preceptor has been very busy with other things, and I haven’t got to spend much, if any time, asking questions related to the prescriber role, or seeing many patients. I talked with my preceptor about my concerns and am hopeful that my next clinical date will be better. I have also reached out to the instructor to discuss my concerns further.
