Case Study
You wait for your next patient, Shakyeela Al Enezi, a 19-year-old woman, referred to you by her mother, who says it’s because “Shakyeela is a habitual drug user and I’m tired of it.â€
Shakyeela Transcript
I am only here because my mother made the appointment and said she won’t pay my phone bill if I didn’t show up. She thinks I have a problem, but I don’t, and I don’t want to be here. [loud sigh]
I am not depressed, and I have not thought about committing suicide. How horrible. [shudder sound]
Like I said, I don’t have any problems so you can stop talking to me. You will tell Mother I came, right?
That’s enough. I’m not staying any longer. This is just a waste of time. I’m taking this call.
After Shakyeela leaves, you review her intake forms. You establish that she has been regularly using cocaine for the past two years. She has not been in any kind of treatment but indicated that her mother has been trying to get her to do something about it.
