In Chapters 7 and 8, your textbook discusses the views of three major cognitive theories, as well as the fuzzy trace theory. Choose the theory that makes the most sense to you and, in essay format, discuss how it aligns with your view.
- Find a quote from the text that resonates with you; as before, do not duplicate another student’s quote. If you are posting late, you will need to read through other posts. You can easily do a search of key words from your quotation, which will take a minimum amount of time.
- Provide a personal example that supports your perspective. Make sure to integrate academic theory with your view. In other words, although this assignment may use personal examples (or examples in general), it is not about opinion; it is designed for you to understand how a theory makes sense because (according to evidence demonstrated in your example) it integrates with application.
As a short (crazy) example not related to cognitive theory:
- Freud was a strong believer in symbolism. He analyzed behavior and its hidden meanings. For instance, last night I had a dream that I got into a fight on the basketball court in which I punched my best friend and he turned into a woman. This dream makes perfect sense since it highlights my unresolved conflicts about my sexuality. [I would also include a longer explanation about psychoanalytic theory, why it makes sense to me, and other examples that are relevant.]
If you investigate outside (scholarly) sources for information, you must properly cite appropriate references. You do not need to cite the text.
Please don’t overdo it. Limit your response to less than 400 words. (A hard limit this time. For comparison purposes, these directions approach 400
