I think the geographic separation from England influenced the transition from “Good Citizens” to revolutionaries in a tremendous way. Separation from England allowed colonist to develop their own independence. According to Hersey (2018), “Common Sense was more successful than Paine ever could have imagined. Its straightforward language appealed not only to the wealthy and well educated, but also to the masses ofcolonial farmers and laborers (p.2).” According to Keene (2013). “after stating the “simple facets, plain arguments, and common sense” of the matter, Pain concluded that separation from Britain was the only action that made sense for America (p.109).” With the separation from England, America was able to form its own government. The Prohibitory Act helped America start to gain independence. Keene (2013) stated, “Although Congress had not formally declared independence, it had effectively asserted that the colonies had become independent states no longer under the authority of Parliament or the king (p.110).” “Richard Henry Lee of Virginia introduced a resolution that “these United Colonies are, and of right ought to be, free and independent states (Keene, 2013, p.110).” “On July 4, 1776, Congress approved the final text of the Declaration of Independencea public defense of America’s decision to declare independence from Britain that was to be printed and sent to the individual states (Keene, 2013, P.110).”
