In our society, it is not uncommon to hear people proclaim that they hate parties, referring, of course to political parties. However, parties still play a primary role in how candidates are elected and how government is run. For this discussion board, skim the party platforms of both the Republican and Democratic parties. What are some of the planks they each address and how? Do you think the old criticism that there are very few differences between the two major parties is still true today? Do you think that is a good thing or a bad thing? What do you perceive are the benefits and drawbacks of parties in our society today? Are third parties the answer? Why or why not?
